New Delhi: Standup comedian Kunal Kamra is accused of making objectionable jokes with Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Amid the controversy, Bookmisso not only removed his content, but also dropped him out of the list. Now standup comedian Kunal Kamra has written an open letter to the ticketing portal ‘Bookmochao’ amid controversy. He has appealed to give the content list of the audience who came on his solo show.
Kunal Kamra shared her letter on X, which says, ‘Dear Bookmash, I understand that you have to maintain good relations with the state and I know that Mumbai is a center of live entertainment. Without the help of the state, big shows like ‘Coldplay’ and ‘Guns An Rosage’ are not possible. However, the issue is not whether you can deliver me or not – this is about your special right to show listing. By not allowing the artists to list the show through their websites, you have stopped me from reaching the audience for whom I performed between 2017 and 2025.
Talk on the challenges of the artist
Kunal Kamra further wrote, ‘You take 10% of the profits for show listing. Here is your business model. However, there is a necessity here: No matter how big or small the comedian is, we are forced to spend 6000 to 10000 rupees daily to reach our audience. This cost is an additional burden that we have to bear as artists.

Request to give a list of bookmash
Kunal Kamra wrote at the end of his letter, ‘You can express concern about data protection. But the question is who protects which data, from whom? This can be discussed in detail. My demand is to hand over the information about the contact of my solo show audience, so that I can live with respect and work for a living. A solo artist, especially in the world of comedy, is both shows and production in itself.
Kunal Kamra apologizes
The controversy over Kunal Kamra began when he in his YouTube video called Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde a ‘traitor’. The incident angered the Shiv Sena supporters and the party members vandalized the ‘The Habitat’ venue, where Kunal Kamra made a disputed comment during the performance. Three separate FIRs have been lodged against him at Khar police station. Kunal Kamra has upheld his statement despite all the troubles. He issued a statement on his social media handle saying that he would not apologize for his performance.
