In the late 60s, Mahmood had become the highest fees in the country. According to the report published in The print, Mahmood used to charge a fee of Rs 7.5 lakh for only two weeks of cameo in films at that time. Top actors of that time like Sunil Dutt, Dharmendra, Shammi Kapoor and Rajendra Kumar used to charge less than 5 lakh fees for the entire film. Even superstars Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan could not cross the Rs 7.5 lakh mark by the middle of the 70s. It is said that by the 80s, Mahmood used to charge as much fees for his cameo as Salman Khan and Aamir Khan could not take for their early films.
