New Delhi. Sandhya Mukherjee is always named in the Indian music world with respect and love. She was a singer who not only won the hearts of Bengali music lovers with her melodious voice, but also made her own identity in Hindi films. Sandhya Mukherjee was born on 4 October 1931 in Dhakuria area of Kolkata. His father worked in the railway and mother used to handle the house.

Sandhya Mukherjee got information about many styles of music. He worked hard and learned the nuances of classical music from gurus like music guru Ghulam Ali Khan. There was a different sweetness in his voice, which touched the heart of the listener. In 1948, he got a chance to sing in Bimal Roy’s Hindi film ‘Anjangarh’.

After this, in 1950, he sang with the famous song ‘Bol Papihe Bol’ Lata Mangeshkar in the Hindi film ‘Tarana’, which is still on the tongue of the people. However, she was mostly in discussions due to Bengali music. Sandhya Mukherjee’s songs were well liked with Lata Mangeshkar. It was from here that his career got a new direction and Sandhya got a new dimension in the Bengali industry.

Suchitra was identified as the voice of Sen
She became a voice for Uttam Kumar and Suchitra Sen, the most famous couple of Bengali cinema and their songs are still in the hearts of the people. His songs are liked by people of every generation. Sandhya Mukherjee gradually became famous as Sandhya Mukherjee, the voice of Suchitra Sen.
Sandhya Mukherjee married famous poet and lyricist Shyamal Gupta in 1966, who wrote the lyrics of many of her songs and became support in her career. Sandhya Mukherjee also won many awards in her life. He received the National Award in 1971, and in 2011, the West Bengal government awarded him the highest civilian honor of Bengal ‘Bang Vibhushan’.

Apart from this, Jadavpur University also gave him an honorary doctorate. However, in 2022, when he was offered to give him the Padma Shri honor, he refused to accept it. He believed that this honor is small for a senior artist like him and should be given to new artists. Sandhya Mukherjee died on 15 February 2022 due to Kovid-19 related complications. He breathed his last at the age of 90.
