Durga Khote not only made a distinct identity in the acting world, but also gave a new direction to her life by playing the responsibilities of the house. Durga Khote was born on 14 January 1905 in a Brahmin family in Maharashtra. In a period of time, when working in films was considered a social stigma for women, they challenged this thinking. He was married to Vishwanath Khote at the age of 18, who was a successful mechanical engineer. Within a few years she became the mother of two children, but destiny had some more acceptance. When Durga was just 20 years old, her husband passed away. Durga Khote, who was financially broken, was looking for work for the upbringing of her children.

Also taught tuition to run home

Durga Khote had educated, so started giving tuition, but when the offers were received from films, she accepted. His first film was ‘Farebi Jal’ (1931), which failed. But according to the report by director V. INS, Shantaram recognized his talent and gave a chance to the role of Taramati in the film ‘Ayodhyacha Raja’ (1932). With this, she became a star overnight. After this, he worked in films like ‘Maya Machindra’, ‘Bharat Milap’, ‘Mughal-e-Azam’, ‘Bobby’, ‘Karj’ and proved himself in every style of acting.

Also made many short films
Durga Khote acted in more than 200 films and gave Indian cinema a dignity in the characters of ‘Maa’. He also started a production house named ‘Fact Films’ and made many short films. Honoring his contribution, he was awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Durga Khote died on 22 September 1991 at the age of 86. But the path he made became an inspiration for many generations to come.
