Now come towards an interesting story. Do you know that Kannadasana wrote a song in half a sleep once and that song received the National Award?
Yes, this is true at all. Tamil’s top lyricist Kannadasan has written songs for about 4500 films. Some films have also acted and written books.
This story is associated with Rajinikanth’s first film ‘Apoorva Ragangal’. If the movie who had won the award by pressing it, he also became a favorite of the people. It is K. Balchander was directed. The film also featured Kamal Haasan, Sridevi and Srividya. Music was given M.S. Vishwanathan.
One day during the shooting, Balchander and MSV were talking about a song. Kamal Haasan was also present there. Balchander asked – When will the song rehearsal be done? MSV said – Tomorrow. When Balchander asked the reason, he said – Kannadasana has not given lyrics yet. Balchander became angry on hearing this. Said – Will we have to wait for the lyrics now?
Kamal Haasan told that Kannadasana is sleeping in the upper room. Hearing this, Balchandar went there and said loudly, very good. Now I can also cancel shooting and go to sleep. Kannadasana listened to him. After a while, he quietly left from there.
About an hour later, his assistant brought a paper. Kannadasana wrote not one, but seven songs on it – that too in half sleep. When Balchander opened that paper, he was surprised. Every song was tremendous.
He chose one of them songs – ‘Ezusvarkangal’. The song was sung by Vani Jairam and received the National Award. Vani Jairam also received the National Award for Best Female Singer. That year the film ‘Apoorva Ragangal’ received a total of three National Awards.
