New Delhi. Bollywood’s veteran actor Kabir Bedi’s personal life has been as interesting and complicated as his film career. With four weddings, an open marriage and many deep relationships, he has always challenged the traditional boundaries of society. Kabir Bedi, who is 79 years old, surprised the world by marrying a British -origin writer and filmmaker Parveen Dusanj, 30 years younger than herself at the age of 70. Recently, he broke the silence when he came close to his first wife Protima Bedi and Parveen Babi. In a recent interview to Filmfare, he admitted that the open marriage was the last ointment of our shattered relationship, which failed.
Kabir Bedi recently shared the painful and complex story of her first marriage. In 1969, Kabir Bedi did the famous classical dancer and model Protima Gupta. This was the same relationship, which came into the limelight for the first time in India for the concept of ‘Open Marriage’ in the 1970s.
Adopted the path of ‘open marriage’ because
Kabir Bedi openly told that this marriage started traditionally but later both adopted the path of ‘Open Marriage’ because their relationship was already on the verge of breakdown. Talking to Filmfare, he said,
‘When you say that we had an open marriage, it was not that we were like this at the time of marriage. We tried to follow it in a traditional way for a long time. But when one affair starts to have one after the other, then there is ego, positiveness and stress in the relationship.
Kabir admitted that he adopted the concept of open relationship when the marriage was on the verge of breaking up. He said, ‘We adopted it as an attempt to save the relationship, but it did not work’

When Protima left the family, the actor was broken
Kabir revealed another shocking that one day Protima suddenly left her and the children and went to learn Odyssey dance.
‘That day was very difficult. I just said, ‘If your soul says that you have to do this, then go. I said that I will take care of the children ‘
After that Kabir started taking responsibility for his children Siddharth and worship. Around the same time, he came close to actress Parveen Babi, who made her life even more complicated. The veteran actor said-
‘It became another turmoil because I left home, which was very difficult and painful. But it had become necessary, at that time, given the status of our marriage, it was just not working.

Protima vs Parveen
Kabir also talked about the tension between Protima and Parveen. He said, ‘Parveen was always upset with Protima because she believed that Protima wanted to come back with me and she was very certain about it.’ The actor further said- ‘So any thing about meeting Protima used to create a terrible scene. But it was necessary for me to keep meeting with my children.
Parveen did not play the role of mother
He made it clear that Parveen never played the role of a mother, although the children had talks with him. They told-
‘There was a time when we were together, Protima had to go out and I had to take care of the children. But it was not that Parveen took care of the children. Of course, the children used to meet him and talk to him. But I also wanted to spend time alone with him. So it was a difficult situation, it was not easy to handle. But I handled it. Between career, dealing with emotions, dealing with children’s needs, a large stress, produces a big pressure. But this is what we made and this is what we had to live and do.
Let us tell you that Kabir Bedi married his first wife Protima Bedi in 1969. Couple’s son Siddharth, and a daughter Pooja Bedi, who later became an actress. However, there were difficulties in their marriage and they separated in 1974. During this time, Kabir’s actress Parveen came into a relationship with Babi, who attracted a lot of media attention due to his celebrity status and personal conflicts. After his relationship with Parveen, Kabir Bedi married his second wife, British fashion designer Susan Humphrees, with whom he has a son, Adam Bedi. His fourth wife is from Parveen Dusanj.
