In 1936, when Ashok Kumar stepped into the acting world with Bombay Talkies’s film ‘Jeevan Naiya’, he was very nervous. Himanshu Rai, the head of Bombay Talkies, signed him as a hero, but he was shocked on the very first day of the shooting. Ashok had a strange haircut without asking. Rai immediately called a hairdresser and wighed him.

But the real nervousness occurred when Ashok came to know that her first scene is with Devika Rani and that too the intimate scene wearing the necklace. Ashok kept trying to give scenes with trembling hands, but the nervousness was so much that he took three-four tecj, first ran the bathroom, then the necklace got entangled and the hair was scattered. After which the director grabbed his head, but this was the hesitation that made him a real artist.

Bombay Talkies until he becomes a hero from his job
Ashok Kumar’s relationship with films was not suddenly related to luck. In 1934, he was admitted to Bombay Talkies as a lab assistant. But Himanshu Rai saw something different in them and made him a hero. But this was not acceptable to the family members. When the mother came to know that son has become a hero in films, she again repeated- staying away from girls.
Identification from ‘untouchable girl’
Between 1936 and 1938, Ashok Kumar did six films. But in 1936 itself, the ‘untouchable girl’ gave him a real identity. People liked her pairing with Devika Rani, but the mother’s worry still remained, the son should not be seduced in the dazzle. Meanwhile, there was another dramatic turn in his life.
