New Delhi. The controversy over Union Minister and actor Suresh Gopi’s upcoming Malayalam film ‘Janaki vs State of Kerala’ is constantly increasing. The film’s director Praveen Narayanan told on social media on Thursday that the Revising Committee of the Censor Board (CBFC) has demanded not only the title of the film but also to change the name of the main character ‘Janaki’.
Big decision came from CBFC’s Mumbai headquarters
In fact, on June 18, the regional censor office of Thiruvananthapuram passed the film with a U/A certificate. But when the final report of the film was sent to Mumbai headquarters, the big officials there demanded the title and ‘Janaki’ name to change.
Why controversy on Janaki’s name?
There is a controversy over the name ‘Janaki’ because it is considered to be another name of Goddess Sita in Hinduism. The story of the film is a courtroom drama, in which a woman named ‘Janaki’ fights for justice. Officials say that the woman who has been shown a victim of sexual harassment in the film cannot be named ‘Janaki’. In the film, Anupama Parameswaran is playing the role of ‘Janaki’, while Suresh Gopi plays the role of a senior lawyer who fought his case.

Case in High Court, makes heavy losses
The film’s makers had already filed a petition in the Kerala High Court. He says that due to the delay of the censor board, he has suffered heavy losses. The release of the film was fixed on 27 June, but despite the expenditure on promotion, marketing and events, the loss is continuously increasing due to lack of sensor certificate. The case will be heard today, in which CBFC and court will tell the decision of the committee. At the same time, the Film Employees Federation of Kerala has expressed displeasure over this attitude of CBFC. The organization says that in this way the attitude of the censor board can create crisis in the industry.
