Failed as an actor
Subhash Ghai has been a filmmaker and director as well as an actor. He played small roles as an actor in many films, but he did not get any recognition as an actor. Subhash Ghai made his acting debut in the early 60s. He appeared in some small but notable roles.
Acting with Kaka, flop remains
Subhash Ghai got a big role in 1969 in Rajesh Khanna and Sharmila Tagore starrer blockbuster film ‘Aradhana’. He was not in the lead role in the film, but managed to make his presence felt. Later, he acted in films like ‘Umang’, ‘Bharat Ke Shaheed’, ‘Sheri’ and ‘Natak’. In acting, he was not able to achieve that position, for which he came in the industry. After this, he decided that he would now turn to direction.

Start of direction from Kalicharan
Subhash Ghai turned to film direction in 1979. The first film made under his direction was ‘Kalicharan’, which was a blockbuster. The film featured Shatrughan Sinha and Reena Roy in the lead roles. Subsequently, he directed films like ‘Karj’, ‘Hero’, ‘Saudagar’, ‘Karma’, ‘Pardes’ and ‘Taal’ and emerged as a favorite director of decades.
Godfather made by Madhuri Dixit
Madhuri Dixit impressed people with her dance and acting. After the debut film Abodh, Madhuri Dixit did many films but no film was a hit. After these flop films, Subhash Ghai launched Madhuri again. In 1989, Subhash Ghai took a chance and Madhuri Dixit again appeared in ‘Ram Lakhan’ with Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit became famous overnight with her attractive acting and excellent dancing skills. After that, the ‘Dhak-Dhak’ girl never looked back and became her godfather in the Ghai industry. In this way, Madhuri’s acting car got the track. After this she became the first choice of the makers. He also received the National Film Award as a producer for the 2006 film Iqbal.
