Sameer Wankhede talks to HT City addressing speculations about personal enmity with Shahrukh Khan. He said, ‘There is nothing like that… I am an officer of the law, I work according to whatever books and acts are there. We’re not living in some kind of ‘banana republic’ here. We have a constitution, we have a system, we have a setup. There is a chain of command. I am a very small man, just a government servant. How can someone have such enmity? All this is just useless talk.

What did Wankhede say on the leaked chats of 2021?

Wankhede also clarified the claims of leaking of private chats with Shahrukh Khan in 2021. He said, ‘I will tell you what the truth is. I had filed a writ petition before the Honorable Bombay High Court. In that writ I had to present some evidence before the court so why would I ‘leak’ it? I will bring it before the honorable court. What is the purpose of my ‘leaking’?

He further clarified the legal process, explaining that he provided the 65B certificate required to authenticate electronic records under India’s Evidence Act, ensuring that all evidence was presented in a legal and proper manner.

The controversy began in October 2021 when Sameerwankhede, as NCB zonal director, led a raid on a Mumbai cruise ship, resulting in the arrest of Aryan Khan and others. Aryan spent about three weeks in jail and was later released in May 2022 due to ‘lack of evidence’.

Following his release, allegations emerged that a bribe was demanded from the Khan family for Aryan’s release, which led to a corruption case being filed against Wankhede by the CBI in May 2023. Wankhede consistently described all the allegations as politically motivated. In September 2025, he filed a defamation suit against Netflix and Red Chillies, claiming that ‘Bastards of Bollywood’ contained a malicious parody of him and tarnished the image of law enforcement officials.
