New Delhi. Bollywood’s famous filmmaker and National Award winning director Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri is in the news for his new film ‘The Bengal Files’. Politics has been hot about this film. The film, based on the true events of the 1946 Direct Action Day and the Noakhali massacre that took place, is going to be released in theaters on 5 September, but before that the film is being opposed and the demand for ban is beginning to arise.

Meanwhile, the film’s director Vivek Agnihotri has made a special appeal to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee through a video message. He has urged that the state government should not ban the film and allow its peaceful screening.

In his video message, Vivek Agnihotri said, ‘Honorable Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee ji, this video is for you. Our film ‘The Bengal Files’ is releasing worldwide, but it is being said that it will be banned in West Bengal. The theater owners are telling me that there is so much political pressure on him that he is afraid to show the film. Due to this pressure, the trailer of the film was also not shown in theaters on 16 August. We tried to show the trailer in a hotel, but the police stopped him.

Agnihotri urged Mamata Banerjee, saying, ‘You have taken an oath of the Constitution of India and have also taken an oath to protect the right to express every citizen’s views. The film has received approval from the Censor Board of India (CBFC), which is part of a government machinery. Therefore, it is your constitutional responsibility to take responsibility for releasing this film peacefully.

Regarding the theme of the film, Agnihotri said that it is based on the 1946 Direct Action Day and Noakhali massacre, which is a very painful chapter in Indian history. He said that if an incident like Noakhali had not happened, then perhaps India would not have been partitioned.
