New Delhi. Everyone is aware of the story of Amitabh Bachchan being a great hero. After giving one flop one after another at the beginning of his career, Amitabh Bachchan’s fate ‘Zanjeer’ did not look back in such a way. After watching Vinod Khanna’s films in Bollywood, people started saying that if he can compete with Big B, he is Vinod Khanna, but he left the films as soon as he came on a career peak. But do you know that in the 80s, an actor also came, who gave a tough competition to Amitabh Bachchan. This actor was called the real hero of single screen.

This actor is none other than the ‘disco dancer’ of Hindi cinema. Mithun Chakraborty may stay away from the glitter of glamor, but in the 1980s and 90s he achieved the position which is still proud to remember the cinema hall owners. There was a time when the entire business of single screen cinemas used to run in the name of Mithun and many times he came to be called a bigger star than Amitabh Bachchan.

Vishek Chauhan, the owner of Bihar’s oldest theater ‘Roopbani Cinema’, recently recalled Mithun Chakraborty’s stardom remembering the old era in the digital commentary podcast. He remembered how Mithun Chakraborty kept single screen theaters alive in difficult times. He said- ‘Mithun is a legend, no matter what. There was a time when he used to give us two films every month. Every Gemini film opened with 100% Occupancy. We knew that if they have a film then the week would be good ‘.

‘People started considering him above Amitabh Bachchan’

He further said, ‘When Bollywood was slowly going into the’ Elitest ’round, Mithun kept the cinema at the ground level. Between 1985 and 1990, he gave many such hits that people started considering him above Amitabh Bachchan. Vishek Chauhan further said that Mithun has become so big and has given so many hit films, so he has also seen that kind of stardom.

Vishak also highlighted the unique business models of Mithun’s films. He told that most of the Ooty was shot. The film’s producer Rajiv Babbar would have been named and the entire unit would have completed the film for low cost. According to Venac, Mithun used to charge fee of Rs 1 lakh per day at that time, which was a huge amount at that time. And their condition was that the shooting should be in Ooty. The crew stayed at his own hotel, Monarch Hotel. The film theater used to reach Ooty to the owner.

Mithun is active even today

Thun Chakraborty recently appeared in a romantic-comedy legal drama named Mr. VS Mrs., which was released in May. Apart from this, he is also playing an important role in Vivek Agnihotri’s much awaited film The Bengal Files: Right to Life, which is going to be released on 5 September 2025.
