He says, ‘I had earlier opened a stall of a vada pav in Shivaji Park, but BMC seized it’. He further explained that during the Ganpati festival, many rich people did not want to get out of their cars and immerse the idol themselves. He says that he and his friend provided this service to him, in which he used to immerse his idols and earn money instead. He used to charge 5 rupees for this service and divided it among themselves. Utekar said that he used to chase the cars of rich people and offer them to serve idol immersion.
Toilets used to wash in film studios
Regarding his debut in the film industry, he says that he got an entry in the industry from a job in the newspaper. He says that he got the first task as a cleaning worker in the film studio. He says, ‘I started working as a scavenger for him, and I really did not understand what they were doing. I used to clean the floor and toilet, after that I used to bring tea for people working in sound and editing studios. I saw his work and realized that whatever work he was doing was very interesting, and I did not go from there for several days; I never felt bored.
Laxman Utekar was brought up with films due to cleaning the toilet of the film studio and serving tea. At first sight, he was so pleased that he decided to make a career in filmmaking itself.
