After coming to Mumbai, graduate Leela again started working in a school. But it was the responsibility of four children, it was difficult to live, at such a time, he did Marathi theater. He questioned casteism, women’s status and social pressures through his plays and films. Despite this, he made an extra attendance in films. Became an actress while struggling. Then came those films – ‘Kangan’, ‘Bandhan’, ‘Jhula’ – Where she came out as a modern, self -sufficient woman with Ashok Kumar. His character in the films of that time used to speak, think, and fight. It was a new heroine, who was showing a mirror to the society by going beyond flowers and sarees.
