In the early 1960s, there was a silent crack in the relationship between Guru Dutt and SD Burman. When the estrangement and pain in the relationship came forward in the form of notes, some classical songs came into existence. The 1956 film ‘CID’ was composed by OP Nayyar, while the tunes of ‘Pyaasa’ were prepared by SD Burman. It is said that before the release of ‘CID’, Guru Dutt had promised OP Nayyar that if the film was a hit, he would give him a car in the gift, but later Guru Dutt forgot his promise, which hurt OP Nayyar and left both of them.
Guru Dutt later planned to make the film ‘Bahare Phir Bhi Aayegi’ with Dharmendra, which was chosen by SD Burman to compose his music, but here was something else approved by luck. According to media reports, SD Burman had a heart era and doctors advised him to comfort. When Guru Dutt heard, he told SD Burman that if you cannot work, then bring me a new musician. SD Burman was hurt by his words. He said that music is ready, you take RD Burman with you. The title trek of the film with Mohammad Rafi was recorded, but Guru Dutt did not believe. He contacted OP Nayyar and apologized for his actions, after which a new music for the film was prepared.
Broken friendship and instead of artist
Guru Dutt removed the music of SD Burman and Mohammad Rafi’s song from the film ‘Baharan Phir Aayegi Aayegi’. Time passed, but SD Burman could not forget that neglect. He decided to make the rejected music alive and got this opportunity from Dev Anand’s film ‘Jewel Thef’. The tune that was born in Rafi Sahab’s voice in ‘Baharan Phir Aayegi Aayegi’, now became immortal in Kishore Kumar’s voice. SD Burman threaded his music in the song ‘Yeh Dil Na Hota Damar’. The song became very famous. The irony was that neither the first version in Rafi Saheb’s voice came to light at that time nor could Guru Dutt see the success of the song of ‘Jewel Thef’. Today we hear the song ‘Yeh Dil Na Hota Poor Damar’ filmed on Dev Anand, so in addition to the romantic tune, the twitch of a broken friendship and artist is heard.
