Mumbai. Famous lyricist and script writer Javed Akhtar is known for his impeccable statements. He expresses his opinion on the film industry as well as social issues without hesitation. Many times he also comes on the target of people for his statements, but always talks in his impeccable style. He recently explained in an interview why Bollywood celebs, especially big celebs prefer to be silent on political matters. He said that he does not avoid speaking, but he is afraid.

Javed Akhtar mentioned a speech of Hollywood actress Meril Streep at the 2017 Glodon Globe Awards. The actress criticized Donald Trump, who was the President of America at that time. But no income tax was red on them. Javed said, “Meril Streep made a statement against the US government, but there was no income tax on him.”

Javed Akhtar further said in Kapil Sibal’s podcast, “Whether it is insufficients true or not, I do not want to go into that debate. But this is the perception among the celebs. If this fear is in someone’s heart, they will worry about ED, CBI, Income Tax Red… that their files will be opened and they will be investigated.”

Javed Akhtar said, “This fear does not come from within the film industry. They may be in the industry, but they live in the same society. They work like ordinary people. This profession has just fanfare. They do not blame others for keeping silent. I am probably one of the few voices that are speaking, but I understand why other people do not speak.”
