Mumbai. US President Donald Trump has decided to impose 100% tariff on films made abroad. Its announcement has created a stir in the global film industry. This decision of Trump will increase the cost of foreign films seen in American significantly. Criticism of Trump’s decision has started. Filmmakers of India will also suffer a big loss. The Indian film industry has a big business in America. Almost all the big films of India are released there. There are a large number of diaspora. Filmmaker Bijay Nambiar has criticized this.

Bijoy Nambiar told News18 that this decision of Donald Trump has a possible economic shock to Indian filmmakers. However, he argued that Indian films are not made by considering the American market as primary audience. He said, “This is a shortage, but we do not make films for that market”

Bijoy Nambiar said that Indian films have been profitable from America. He said, “America is a market for our films, but I don’t think we make films mainly keeping in mind the American market. It is another market with other international regions… Our films are mainly made keeping in mind the Indian audience and Indian market and of course the OTT market too. These are the biggest revenue sources for our films.”

Bijoy Nambiar said, “Yes, these tariffs will adversely affect us, but every day the US government is imposing different tariffs for different industries every day, I feel that putting tariffs on films will be profitable to them. We have to see how the market reacts further.”

Bijoy Nambiar also said that while Indian films will have to face a decrease in American box office revion. He said, “Of course they will be impressed, but because we are not mainly making films for the market, this is only a drawback in our income source that we will see.”
