Vasundhara Das not only worked in Hindi films. The actress had made her mark in Hindi as well as South films. Kanji eyes, innocent face – Vasundhara had made everyone crazy with her acting, her innocence as well as her singing. Along with acting, she was also known for her singing, but then suddenly the actress disappeared from the industry and now no one knows where she is and what she is doing.

Vasundhara debuted in Tamil cinema in 2000 with the film ‘Hey Ram’, in which she acted opposite Kamal Haasan. His performance in the film brought him rapid recognition and opened the doors to further opportunities in the industry. Vasundhara also acted in Hindi, Malayalam and Kannada films, but she appeared most in Hindi cinema. In fact, he turned to Bollywood due to limited opportunities in Tamil cinema.

One of the most important Tamil films of his career was ‘Citizen’, which was an important film for actor Ajith Kumar and was directed by Saravana Subbiah. Interestingly, the character of Vasundhara in ‘Citizen’ was originally meant for Sameera Reddy, but after Sameera Reddy declined, Vasundhara was cast in the film.

Sameera did not know Tamil, due to which this film came to Vasundhara. Sameera Reddy did not speak Tamil and the director did not know Hindi. During the production of the film, composer Deva approached Vasundhara Das to sing the song ‘Pukaara’. Impressed by her voice and screen presence, the director felt that she would be ideal opposite Ajith and cast her in the lead role.

Vasundhara was a brilliant actor and singer which she introduced in her very first films. His work was getting good response. But she was not a dancer. He never took dance training. However, she worked hard to perform the dance sequences in ‘Citizen’.

He also lent his voice to two songs ‘I Like You’ and ‘Pukaara’ in the film. Earlier, she had shared the screen with Kamal Haasan in ‘Hey Ram’, which established her as a versatile artiste.

She was also an amazing playback singer. His song ‘Shakalaka Baby’, which was composed by AR Rahman, established him as a playback singer. This was a superhit song from the film ‘Mudhalvan’ and it created a stir as soon as it was released.

‘Citizen’, released in 2001, created tremendous suspense among the audience and the film became a big commercial hit. This proved to be an important turning point in the career of actress Vasundhara Das. This became a milestone for him.

Vasundhara has worked in Bollywood films like Monsoon Wedding, Lagaan, Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein, Aankhen, Aashiq Banaya Aapne. He has given hit tracks like ‘It’s Time to Disco’ (Kal Ho Na Ho) and ‘Where is the Party Tonight’ (Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna) for Shahrukh Khan.
