Born in a Punjabi-Hindu family of Sialkot, OP Ralahan i.e. Om Prakash Ralahan’s father’s name was Maharaj Krishna, who used to be very rich. His mother’s name was Ratna Devi, who was very religious. Ralahan Saheb was very fond of cinema since childhood and he wanted to weigh himself in every aspect of cinema, that is, he wanted to become producer, director, writer and actor. But it was necessary to read for becoming a writer. So he first completed his education and then started seeing the dreams of the film industry.
BR Chopra’s Assistant
But it is said that time does not remain the same with OP Ralahan. When the country was divided, his family left Pakistan and left for Mumbai. After coming to Mumbai, he started trying to gain a foot in the cinema world. After a lot of efforts, he became an assistant to BR Chopra and kept learning the tricks of production and directions for a lot of Asre. Along with this, he also started doing small roles in many films.

Rajendra Kumar’s accepted advice and made film
Both Rajendra Kumar and OP Ralahan were very good friends. While Rajendra became a hero in the industry, OP Ralahan was trying to illuminate the lines of luck with his hard work and dedication. Then one day Rajendra Kumar advised OP Ralahan to make a film. He said- ‘Dear, my luck was in full swing, I became the top most hero. Now you also become a producer-director. Make a film about me, there will be no shortage of financers due to my name. He did the same in 1963, he became a producer-director and made his banner, named Ralahan Production. His first film was named ‘Dark Dong’. The hero was Rajendra and the heroine was Mala Sinha.
OP Ralahan made Dharmendra ‘Bollywood’s Hi-Man’
OP Ralahan’s biggest hit was the 1966 film ‘Phool Aur Patthar’, which was also the first big hit for Dharmendra. In earlier conversation with Jha of Subhash, Dharmendra shared that he got the name ‘Hi-Man of Bollywood’ due to his shirtless scene in ‘Phool Aur Patthar’. He said, ‘Flowers and stone were a golden jubilee hit. Suddenly I was offered films by every major banner. Many of them wanted me to take off my shirt.

Amitabh taught the biggest lesson of life
Where Dharmendra was made a star from OP Ralahan. At the same time, when no one was believing Amitabh, OP Ralahan expressed confidence in him. They worked together in the 1973 film ‘Bandhe Hath’. On this set, Bachchan learned the lesson that came to his life throughout his life. Big B wrote in one of his blogs, ‘I reached RK Studio for 30 minutes late to shoot for’ Bande Hath ‘. Zeenat Aman-Kabir Bedi gave first opportunity
OP Ralahan launched Zeenat Aman in his film ‘Hustle’. Later he introduced Zeenat to Dev Anand, after which he got stardom from ‘Hare Ram Hare Krishna’. Zeenat shared this story himself. At the same time, Kabir Bedi was given a chance to debut with the film ‘Hustle’. In an interview to Filmfare, he told, ‘Ralahan did not show me the script. He said, ‘Will you ask me the story? Aren’t you ashamed? I made Dharmendra a star! Sign. I thought I was a hero, but later came to know that he was a hero himself in the film and was with Helen.
Difficulties in the last days
Kabir Bedi told that on the last day of the revolution, passed in financial crisis. He died in 1999 at the age of 74. He recognized stars like Dharmendra, Amitabh, Zeenat, but went into oblivion himself. Chowk was named after him in Mumbai, but even today very few people know his contribution.
