New Delhi: Diljit Dosanjh has finally responded to the controversy arising about his upcoming Punjabi film Sardar G3. The film is being criticized for the inclusion of Pakistani actress Hania Aamir in this film amid the increasing tension between India and Pakistan.
In his first public response, Diljit Dosanjh told the BBC Asian Network that the project had been completed even before the current political tension came to light. He said, ‘When this film was made, the situation was all right. We shot it in February and everything was fine then. After that, many big things are not in our hands. So the producers have decided that the film will be made, obviously India will not be engaged, so foreigners are released, then the producers have a lot of money and when this film was being made, there was nothing like this. He said that the manufacturers know that they will be harmed. Now the situation is not in our hands. So if the producers want to release it abroad, then I support them.
FWICE said, Diljit reached Indian sentiments solid
Despite the explanation, FWICE is dissatisfied. In a statement given to Hindustan Times, FWICE President BN Tiwari said, ‘Diljit has hurt Indian sentiments, working with a Pakistani actor. He has disrespected the feelings of the nation and insulted the sacrifice of our brave soldiers. Giving priority to Pakistani artists compared to Indian artists raises serious questions on their loyalty and priorities.
In such a situation, with increasing opposition, the manufacturers of Sardar G3 have opted for worldwide release, except Indian theaters completely. The film is going to come on the international screen on 27 June. Directed by Amarjeet Singh Saron, the third installment of the popular Sardar Ji Franchise brings Diljit back in his favorite ghost-shikar avatar. This time, Hania Aamir and Neeru Bajwa are also in important roles with him. Supporters include Manav Vij, Gulshan Grover, Jasmine Bajwa and Sapna Pabbi. This supernatural comedy, set in the UK, features Diljit’s character, in which he along with Hania removes a naughty soul from a dreadful mansion. Although the film has its own special mix of comedy and fantasy, the off-screen dispute has eclipsed its possibilities in India.
Significantly, after the deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam on 22 April, many Indian film bodies including the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) rejected their stand against Pakistani artists working in Indian production. The release of the trailer of Diljit and Hania starrer Sardar G3 created a renewed resentment, in which FWICE called for a boycott of the film and its lead actor.
