The director himself narrated the story
In an interview to Bollywood Crypt, the director of the film ‘Gophai’, Aruna Raje told that the idea of depth came from a personal experience. He had said that when she lived in Bangalore with her family, her mother often used to find small lemons with turmeric or kumkum while looking for something in the garden. People used to do black magic. Especially in politics. He told that his father was a freedom fighter, who later became politicians and because of this it was common to meet all this in his garden.

Aruna Raje further told that when she got a chance to make films ahead, she thought that she would make films on black magic. She wanted to make something with her real life experience. When she was doing research during the film, she got people who had the effect of black magic.
9 year old daughter broke down
The director had said in his interview that when she was meeting the tantrik during the research for the film, many tantrikas advised her not to make a film on this subject. He predicted that after making this film, something bad will happen to him. Aruna Raje says that this also happened to her. She says that after making the film, she divorced her husband and her younger 9 -year -old daughter died of cancer. The director also told that after the release of the film, the audience used to bring complaints to him that strange things are happening with him. He used to ask for the number of him and the people of his team.
